Saw is a spitfire. Although 83, she has distinct opinions about thread color choices and certain weaving designs and isn’t afraid to share them. Many of the other Karen artisans call Saw, “Apoo,” a nickname meaning “Grandma.” She is strong in her opinions but sweet and giving in her actions, just like a grandma should be. She lives with her daughter, Daw, and two grandsons, and together, Daw and Saw weave Hill Triber bags and scarves in their home. Saw has fought for the safety and security of her daughter and grandsons and continues to fight to ensure that they have a bright future here in America. You can read more about Saw in this blog post.

If you own one of Saw’s bags (or simply want to send a message), please feel free to write her a note in the comments below. We will share them with her. Eventually, we’d like every artisan to be able to write you back on her own.
